I think from my first placement I've been making great connections with students either it being every day within the hall interactions or car duty in the morning. It's a giant variety of how I make connections with students because some students I connected with right away at the beginning of the school year they took a liking to me and they were very easy going compared to other students that it took up until last week them seeing me walk in the parade for homecoming with them. I think there's a lot of different ways you can make connections with students but I believe it's the time the dedication that really sparks those connections because they end to trust you more as well as see that you can also be fun and silly at the same time or for me that's how it works anyways because there so young. I have also made very good connections by making myself present in the hallways during passing times as well as maybe by the doors by recess when they're coming in or even down at lunch i'll make appearance once or twice a week just to check on stuff and see how people are doing
I think it is awesome that you walked in the parade with the students. I definitely think if you continue doing things like that in the future wherever you end up working at you will have extremely strong bonds with the students.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it really takes dedication and time to build connections with students, I have been working really hard to create opportunities to connect with students outside of their behavior or academics.
ReplyDeleteI like how you understand that it takes effort to build those connections with the students. It doesn't just happen by being and teaching. I also think it's great that you walked in the parade with them. I'm sure they loved that and thought that was pretty cool.
