The first thing that came to my mind this week when looking at the topic diverse learners was my recent experiences with in my class. Those experiences being adaptive physical education or children within my class that had behavioral issues It's a very wide range when it comes to physical education but you always have to be ahead of the curve and proactive on these things because it's so easy to let these kids kind of just sift into the rest of the class while not paying much attention but these kids probably need the most amount of help. That help can look a variety of ways but for the most part it's just being there for the individual such as making all activities or mostly all activities suitable for adaptive PE as well as not as many challenging competition games I love competition but it's one of those things that can definitely spark children with behavioral issues. So I work around that by setting the games as cooperative as one class goal or maybe based on your own progress so individuals don't feel so pressured to win necessarily. I just think it's very important to definitely remember adaptive physical education because those kids don't get Enough time within physical education so the minutes they do get should be important and meaningful.

Yes, This is an important part of your environment of your class which in turn sets the culture of your teaching. You want everyone to feel they have something to offer and they can be successfull. You set the students up for wanting to engage in something they might not be sure they can do it. They way you set it up they will be successfulll so they will improve(growth mindset)
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of the games being cooperative and having one class goal. I haven't tried that out but I can see myself using that in the future. It gives every student a chance to participate and feel like they contributed to the class goal
ReplyDeleteThe student with special needs definitely need your class but some can get over stimulated quickly or as you said can't handle competition. It is important to find the balance with them so they get what they need in terms of activity but help them understand the social part of participating with others and the feeling that come with winning and losing.
ReplyDeleteI love how you are being proactive in preventing behaviors and adapting your plan for your P.E. class to have one goal as a group rather than competition. (That's something I would struggle with as well, since I am a very competitive person). This also helps to build culture in your classroom to make sure everyone feels valued and supported by each of them having their own role to help accomplish the overall goal.
ReplyDeleteGlad your back! Hope you had a good time. This week we are looking at assessments. See you next Wednesday.
