I believe that my first impressions went very well in my first week of school I met with very different members of the community within our school all the way from the principal to the lunch ladies I think it was very important to meet these individuals because in a real school once I get a job I will want to know personnel and become family with Personnel because I believe that is the way that a functioning School works fantastically more along the lines of Pride and culture than a structured time settlement of learning. I believe that continuous professional growth is essential for creating an engaging and effective PE program. First impressions in the classroom setup also extend to how I greet and interact with students on the first day. I ensure that my introduction is warm and energetic, and I take the time to learn each student’s name quickly, making them feel valued from the start. I tried my absolute best to learn names but I could only learn so many. The first day of school I introduced myself through a PowerPoint and used pictorial and video examples to help engage the students. For more classroom setup I have the gymnasium or PE room so I have a little bit more set up on the physical end of things such as making sure balls were pumped up and the floor was okay to be used and the equipment was just safe overall compared to the traditional teachers classroom. but we were very proactive and my cooperating teacher and we pretty much finished all of our classroom setup in one day and from there we just focused on preparing for the school year and developing my skills and ideas to use later on in life.
I have noticed the benefit of power-point even in PE after the first few days. I like that our cooperating teachers had us introduce ourselves. I think it helps the students warm up to us quicker. I tried to learn names but it is so challenging when we have every student in the school and we only see them for 25 minutes.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about how important it is to meet as many faculty and staff members as you can and learning the students names as quickly as possible! I was a little overwhelmed myself with the number of teachers and staff I met during professional development the first couple of days and worked hard to learn remember the kids' names after the first day. Also, I love the interactive powerpoint to introduce yourself, that's a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI liked how you and your cooperating teacher were proactive with equipment and set up. It can be challenging to do because setting up the gym is a lot different than a traditional classroom. Safety is always our number one priority and you must make sure students feel safe and comfortable from the first day. You can't wait until something happens before you check your equipment.
ReplyDeleteI like what you said about prefering a staff who feels like family in order to create a productive learning eviroment. I think student teaching in the fall gives us a leg up in reguards to our week spent in the school prior to the first day. By enabling us to familarize ourselves with the the staff and build those connections.
